Processions taken out by Jain community to celebrate Mahavir Jayanti

Ujjain:The Jain community is set to celebrate the jayanti of 24th Tirthankar Lord Mahaveer today on Saturday. The 3 day celebration began on Friday as processions were taken out in the city.

Jain women, children and men were present during the procession. Digambar and Shwetambar community took out three morning processions. Preparations are on full swing for celebrating the occasion. Another procession will be taken out on Saturday with full zeal and excitement.

Community members raised slogans and imparted message of ‘Jiyo or Jine Do’ among the people.

A women conference was organised at Rangmahal Dharamshala at 2 pm. A procession of Ma Jinwani was taken out from Digambar Jain Temple which was reached to Tower Chowk at 7 pm where a Mahaarti of 1008 earthen lamps was performed.

An abhishek of the statue of Lord Mahaveer will be performed on Saturday at Prashanti Dham.
