Gul Panag wedding solemnised with longtime pilot pal Rishi Attari

Actor, model and former Miss India Gul Panag, breaking many hearts, got hitched on Sunday! She tied the knot with former classmate and longtime friend Rishi Attari, a commercial pilot with Jet Airways, at a private family ceremony in Panchkula near Chandigarh.

The wedding was solemnised at a gurdwara according to Sikh rituals and amid festivities, typical of a Punjabi marriage. Sources in Gul’s family said the 32- yearold’s wedding was attended by close relatives and friends of the couple.

The families held a reception at Panchkula later in the day. There will, of course, be a party for friends from the film industry in Mumbai, but later. Gul’s Punjabi bride outfit as well as Rishi’s dress were designed by Anita Dongre and J. J. Mallya.

Prior to the wedding, the actress participated in the sangeet , mehndi and other Punjabi wedding ceremonies. For those burning with curiosity about the groom, well, he belongs to the family of Sham Singh Attariwala — a general of the Sikh Empire famous for his last stand at the Battle of Sobraon of 1846. Attari — the post on the India- Pakistan border — is named after him.

The groom’s father, H. S. Attari, is a retired colonel while Gul’s father Harcharanjit Singh Panag is a retired lieutenant- general. Gul had won the Miss India title in 1999 and was crowned Miss Beautiful Smile at the same pageant. She was ranked among the top 10 contestants at the 1999 Miss Universe pageant.

She started her career in Bollywood in 2003 with the Hindi movie Dhoop and later worked in a TV series, Kashmeer. The actress featured in the movie Rann in a role where she tries to stop her boyfriend from doing the right thing, and also starred in the muchacclaimed film Dor. Maxim ’s cover page was graced by the actress who has also done TV and print commercials in addition to being the brand ambassador of Tata Sky.

  1. May god bless the couple. Interesting information but needs a small correction. Attari is actually a famous village and the last Indian railway station just before the India - Pakistan border crossing (Wagah). And its the Attariwala Jats who derive their names from the village and not the other way around as mentioned.
